Stella was an extremely fearful, nervous, and anxious Catahoula rescue. She used aggression to compensate for her fear of everything. Very unstable dog. The reality of the situation was that after several biting instances, putting her down was becoming a real possibility.

My research led me to Cali K9. Jas’s experience with aggressive dogs and his training methodology convinced me to spend the money, time, and effort to attempt to save Stella. I’m so glad I did. The results have been spectacular.

When I picked her up after the 4 week Board & Train, Stella’s trainer Devin, had her doing obedience drills I never thought possible. Same with agility drills that are designed to instill confidence and self assurance. I’m totally sold on agility drills for training purposes.

We are currently attending group lessons. Great for more confidence building and socialization around other dogs and people. The future looks bright for Stella & me due to Jas and his awesome team.

I just can’t tell you how much I recommend Cali K9!

Disclaimer before I begin my review: No matter how good the trainers and training sessions are, there is no magic substitute for putting in the work. You will get out what you put in, no short cuts. Cali K9 can give you and your dog all the tools for success but it's still up to you to do the work and make it happen. Any trainer that says differently isn't telling the truth.

I signed my puppy up for Cali K9 private & semi-private training sessions as soon as he got his last parvo shots. As a large and powerful breed I knew socialization and training were critical to start as soon as possible. After we completed those we continued training with weekly group classes starting in beginner's class before moving on to intermediate and finally advanced group class (mainly off leash). Cali K9 gave me the system and tools I needed to help my dog reach his full potential in obedience and discipline. He is often praised by family, friends, and strangers in public for being well behaved and he's complimented as being such a good dog. While he's a great dog (the best, in my humble opinion!) what they don't understand is the countless hours of training and discipline that it took to get him there. The training staff that I've worked with is super knowledgeable and patient. The training and tips are consistent from trainer to trainer (I've worked with Jas, Zay, Juan, and Nick). Everyone is great at being encouraging but also identifying areas to work on, troubleshooting and answering questions, and modeling techniques when needed. San Jose isn't a short commute for me but it's been well worth it for the tools and relationship it's allowed me to have with my dog. The experience has been priceless and I would recommend Cali K9 to anyone looking for dog training with no hesitation.

Cali K9 is a great place to send your pup. I sent my dog Captain to Board and Train for one month and he returned a better more disciplined friend. Captain listens to commands and has better impulse control. If you have any issues with your dog, let the professionals at Cali K9 help you solve them.

I’m very disappointed with my experience at Cali K9. I paid a significant amount of money for professional training, but all the trainers did was point out challenges I was already aware of with my dog. While they gave me tips and “homework” to work on at home, they were unable to successfully demonstrate these techniques with me and my dog during our on-site sessions. If the professionals couldn’t make progress with my dog, how was I supposed to?

I chose Cali K9 because I was struggling to train my (very stubborn) dog on my own and wanted expert help. They advertise that they can train any dog, but my experience proved otherwise. Even two trainers admitted that my dog was “too stubborn” and “too smart” to listen, which felt incredibly discouraging. Each session felt repetitive, focusing on the same techniques without any noticeable progress, leaving me frustrated and disheartened.

At the very least, I expected encouragement or alternative strategies when things weren’t working. Unfortunately, I didn’t get that, and I regret trusting Cali K9 with my dog’s training. For the premium price, I expected much more. I ended up pulling my dog out.

Thank you so much - Jas, Zay, Troy and Hamsa. You have made me and Melvin a better team and I seriously appreciate the care you give to both of us. We have been able to perform simple skills with increasing distractions, challenging both of our ears to listen. We engage in fun activities instead of just being distracted with corrections always. Baby steps for me, Melvin, both our brains and bodies and my rollator for support of my legs (MS and an aging back I’m trying to avoid corrective surgery at my young/old age). Having a well-behaved, high energy dog as a senior citizen is possible. I can see the light for both of us. 15 minutes a day consistently. And make it more fun to be with you than everything and everyone else.

I did the training at home, no shock collar needed. Prong collar for light correction at home and outside - martingale collar was not working. Melvin is learning impulse control. Was not able to be with other dogs as reactive. Now we have done 2 group classes with 10 other dogs in close quarters with distractions. I would have never thought it was possible.

Hamza is changing our lives for the better! I didn't know what I was doing with my fearful, fighter/biter heeler, and just after three sessions I am seeing such an improvement in my girl, Juniper. We are SO grateful and feeling much more confident in our training and every day lives. After working with several other trainers prior to Hamza, I can testify he is the best and this is just the training we both needed. Thank you, Cali K9 fam! I had Juan train my son’s dog, and unfortunately, the experience was horrible. Juan’s approach was far from the attentive and compassionate care we had hoped for. Juan's other dogs were obviously neglected, as they had multiple accidents right there in the training area. We also observed Juan aggressively "flex" at the dogs in an attempt to make them "behave," which was frightening and not a training style we were comfortable with. His noticeably harsh treatment of the dogs deeply troubled us.

Dog training should be about building trust and using positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior, but instead, our dog—along with the others—seemed more anxious and scared after the sessions. This likely explains why the dogs were having accidents.

When I brought up these concerns with Juan, hoping for a constructive conversation, his response was dismissive and rude. This is not what I paid for. He didn’t demonstrate any qualities of patience, understanding, or willingness to adjust his methods to suit the dog’s needs. Honestly, we were very afraid of Juan.

After our experience with Juan, we decided to try another dog training program in Castro Valley, and the difference has been remarkable! Our dog has been much more receptive to their training methods, and in the months since, he’s made noticeable progress. He now obeys commands confidently, and the anxiety we saw during Juan’s sessions is completely gone.
