McCracken County Humane Society is a gift to McCracken County! They are the only shelter for the residents of McCracken County and on top of that they also house animals for McCracken County Animal Control. I have adopted all 5 of my cats and my dog from MCHS! All their animals are on flea/tick prevention, spayed/neutered, and up to date on vaccinations and deworming. All of this is included in their adoption fee which is much cheaper than if you took an animal to the vet on your own. Along with being active at community events and hosting reading night with the public library, MCHS also offers a low cost TNR program for feral cat colonies in McCracken County. New leadership and a passionate staff have turned MCHS into a gift for McCracken County! I will always recommend them for your next furry family member!!!

I have adopted all of our cats from the McCracken County Humane Society. The employees are hard working and friendly. The 4 kittens I just adopted are all wormed, neutered, and chipped. I’ve called several times with questions and Traci was very helpful.
Hannah (review below), it’s disappointing that you go once in 10 years, and give such a negative review. I’ve visited the McCracken County Humane Society often, and have witnessed kind, caring, and very busy workers.

Wonderful staff who came out & got my dog because it is hard for me to walk with him. I got the $50 bundle of immunizations for my dog. What a deal! Every year I take my dog there for his immunizations & they treat both of so good. I will be back next year.

Personally think they could do a lot better. Not very friendly. Seem to have lost passion for what they do. I was quite disappointed and disheartened by my experience. Feel bad for those pups. Too much time locked up with nothing but a water bucket. Some not even given a fair chance. Put outside in the heat with no water. No bed, just concrete to lay on. No toys. Some never let outside. I could go on and on.
It's all about profit sadly.

I adopted a dog in 2014 and was not happy with the expierence at all at this shelter (dog was supposed to be fully vetted but once taken to vet was sick) It has been 10 years since I have adopted an animal from them, because of this expierence and I decided to give them another try. I know that leadership and the people running it have since changed. Today I went and adopted a kitten, because I wanted to help a local animal and there was a "clear the shelter" event (mind you that the staff didn't even know about although it was listed on facebook). It took 5-10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged that I was there. People saw me waiting, just walked on by and went about their way. Several people that didn't look like volunteers or even staff but more like staffs significant others and children behind the front counter... I thought I was in a daycare for a second, not at an animal shelter. The staff was not friendly in my opinion. They didn't do a vet check (which is not an issue for me because I take care of my animals, just worried for other adoptions).. I am extremely happy with my new family member but not my expierence. Didn't even get my picture taken with my new kitten (odd since most places do that to show that they are adopted). Staff seemed to be extremely desensitized or maybe they aren't animal people. Didn't even act excited for an adoption or about an animal finding a home. This is an extremely different expierence then I had at the Christian county animal shelter last week as they were amazing, helpful, and knew about the animals. Other shelters (marshall county animal shelter, project hope, mayfield/graves) I've been to and adopted from have just been alot more caring, concerned, and happy for the animals.
